Yes, of course it's true. "Donald Trump likes to say that Democrats are not only coming after him—they’re also coming after you. He has a point."
That’s the lead of a May 2024 article in the Wall Street Journal. The headline and title is:
Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats call for prosecuting fossil-fuel executives.
(If you already know all about lawfare and that politicians will use it on you, then you may want to skip ahead to Conclusion: Why This is Important!)
Executing people in the fossil fuel business may sound like a good idea, but what if the leftists come for you next?
The article’s lead paragraph goes on,
Look at how Senate Democrats are demanding that the Biden Administration prosecute oil and gas executives for high gasoline prices caused in part by President Biden’s policies... “Only the DOJ can prosecute and fully redress the alleged anticompetitive behavior in the oil sector,” the Senators write.
U.S. government regulators have long used the strong-arm of anti-trust to extort money and power from the big corporations, but the use of the Department of Justice for lawfare is probably more dangerous, as we will see.
Trump says that the leftist government is coming after you. They are just going after him because he is in the way. And it’s true, of course.
What Makes Lawfare Possible…
Lawfare is like a gun in the hands of the politicians who control the prosecutors, the DOJ, and the rest of the parts of the U.S. government law enforcement system. Lawfare is the gun, and the laws are like bullets. Lawfare bullets that the government regulators fire at Americans big and small, from the biggest corporations down to ordinary individual citizens.
Corporations are lawfare targets, even billionaires are. The government regulators love to show that they can use lawfare to wrongly imprison any American they choose. Even someone as rich as Michael Milken was. Or as popular as Martha Stewart. Like Trump, she was convicted of a fake crime that was tangential to a crime she apparently did not commit. She was convicted of supposedly lying to federal officials, not of the crime they apparently falsely charged her with. Judges even have the power to imprison defendants even if the jury finds them not guilty.
Or read Conrad Black’s shocking story in the U.S. government’s baseless and insane persecution of him, that led to him going to prison for a lawfare infraction, mostly invented by his persecutors, as told in his book A Matter of Principle.
Here’s an excerpt from OverRegulated: The crazy history of the phony “Era of Deregulation” meme, and the true story of the Overregulation of America:
In 2019, C-Span (41:00) broadcast an interview with Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch to promote his new book titled, A Republic, If You Can Keep It. Justice Gorsuch told an anecdote about how, out of curiosity, he once asked his law clerks to find out the total number of federal crimes that were on the books. They returned an answer of between 4,000 and 4,500 federal crimes in the statutes. But then Gorsuch asked them to find out how many punishable federal crimes had been created by the unelected federal regulators in the Administrative State. They came back with the answer that over 300,000 federal crimes had been created by the Administrative State by the late 1990s, at which time the people counting the laws had given up and stopped counting.
So overregulation is one of the things that makes lawfare, and all selective prosecution possible. Government regulators like to hide the gigantic issue of the increasing overregulation of the American people. The government and media have even invented the lie of the “Era of Deregulation” to hide the truth of overregulation. Don’t believe the lies. If you want to see the truth instead. You can get a paper copy or read it free online…
We discuss the heinous government power of selective prosecution, too, in our website.
Conclusion: Why This is Important!
Leftists say that the government is controlled or “owned” by the big corporations, but the opposite is true. Government is the natural enemy of business, and the people in business know and understand that. For the same reason that we should know and understand it: The goal of government regulators and politicians, matter what they claim, to is to take our money and to control us. Government regulators also want to take money from the corporations, and to control them.
Government regulators and politicians are very good at pretending to be your friends, but they are not your friends. Not unless you are a leftist, and so one of them.
We Americans are taught to believe that the U.S. government is of, by, and for the people. Even that the government is the people. But who tells us to believe that? The politicians. And the government education system. And the mass media that the government regulators and politicians control.
The idea that the government is the enemy of the people sounds bad, extreme, even unamerican. We may not like to believe that the U.S. government has become the enemy of the American people, but they prove it every day. With the increasing use of lawfare, with unfair and excessive taxation, by borrowing money — creating a massive federal debt — that they use to make themselves rich and that they expect us to repay, by using excuses such as Covid, global warming, transgender “rights” and hundreds of other “issues” and “crises” to take away our rights.
They want to take our money and control us. They are our enemy. When do we become their enemy?
Where Does This Fit In?
We start by criticizing and opposing the leftists. But it doesn’t end there.
Rightful Freedom is envisioned as a publication but also as a platform for discussion, even as a system. We hope not only to oppose the left, but also to propose what is right. We hope that you will want to be a part. Subscribe to see what comes next.

Of course it is true!
The courts are as corrupt as everything else in this damn nation!
Lawfare is only possible if the courts go along. The corruption of the courts and judges, and how they collude with prosecutors is huge problem. We do not have effective oversight of prosecutors or judges. One of my numerous disappointments with Trump is that he doesn't really elevate the issue of his persecution to a more generalized critique of the justice system. The Feds in particular have been abusing their power forever. There is a great book, Licensed to Lie, written by Sidney Powell, long before she get chewed up by the 2020 election. As an aside, she knew nothing of electoral law, she was a highly specialized appellate atty accepted by the SCOTUS and was widely respected. Link to the book here. https://amzn.to/3VQQMJs
You see the entire armament of prosecutorial abuse in her critique. Prosecutors constantly abusing their power, inventing crimes and radical theories that are often overturned on appeal, coercion of witnesses and so many legal games prevent the accused from having anything approaching a 'fair trial'. Just as bad as what they are doing to Trump. Trump is spinning this wrong - it's not just black folks who are victimized by this system, he should resist this temptation. He should also call for actual reform, not 'revenge'.
He should instead make clear that when public officials and politicians are held to account that they will be extra transparent, extra fair. Example: You may want to 'lock Biden up' but the statute of limitations has run out on any of those bribery crimes. There is no case to pursue. We should make that clear. He should offer a plan to restructure FED law enforcement and how U.S. attys operate. DoJ itself is hugely problematic - what would he change? While I'll vote for Trump I find this is a constant problem of his, not properly IDing the actual policy changes required. Third parties like Heritage with their 2025 problem are trying to do it for him, I hope them are successful pressing his admin to become much more coherent and effective should he manage to actually take office in 2025.
